He tugged at the reins of his beast, bringing it closer to the lake's edge, urging it to stop and take a drink. The creature complied, lowering its mighty head to the mirrorlike surface, lapping gently as the traveler narrowed his eyes, peering across the lake to see a building on its far shore. Lights flickered through the windows, suggesting lanterns and torches were in use, not magical light. He sighed. It seemed to be so close by, but he still had to make a trek around the water's edge if he wished to reach the building in time, lest the creatures awakened by the full moon catch him first.
